Nike has been among the leading firms in the apparel sector looking to exploit the opportunities that come with Web3. Its latest venture, the “Our Force 1” collection, seems to be taking the digital sneaker space by storm. Introduced on the Swoosh Web3 marketplace, the groundbreaking initiative lets fans own virtual Air Force 1 sneaker nonfungible tokens (NFTs), placing community involvement at the top and setting multiple new standards for digital sneaker projects.
Celebrating An Iconic Sneaker Within The Digital World
The OF1 collection consists of two kinds of virtual sneaker boxes: New Wave and Classic Remix.
Classic Remix boxes get inspiration from Air Force 1 models between 1982 and 2006, while New Wave boxes are designed to showcase designs from 2007 moving forward.
Both of these box types feature distinct and customized AF1s with some nostalgic and futuristic elements. Every virtual sneaker box is valued at $19.82, to honor the Air Force 1’s debut year. Nevertheless, Nike has decided not to accept crypto payments for these NFTs.
Nike Involves The .Swoosh Community
Nike is ready to airdrop some virtual AF1 posters – keys to help unlock OF1 box NFTs – to random .Swoosh users. Minting is scheduled to begin on May 8 for the members, and the whole .Swoosh community can buy OF1 boxes from May 10.
The OF1 collection gives the fans a say in the creative process, consisting of four virtual shoe designs from .Swoosh members. The Nike designers partnered with the community members to introduce their visions on the blockchain.
A Leader In The Digital Sneakers World
Nike’s previous digital sneaker project, the CryptoKicks partnership with NFT sneaker studio RTFKT, saw prices surpassing $14,000 in the secondary markets.
With the OF1 collection, Nike chooses a more inclusive strategy by providing multiple NFTs at a fixed, and considerably low price point. This method insists on community involvement and points to a new era in the digital sneaker market.
The Takeaway
The ‘Our Force 1’ nonfungible token (NFT) collection represents the potential of NFTs to change brand engagement and reshape the entire sneaker sector. By prioritizing community involvement, focusing mostly on sustainability, and exploring opportunities in augmented reality (AR) and virtual spaces, Nike appears to be making a bold decision that will influence the future of digital sneakers.
