Notably, the leading blockchain games developer is working with Paramount, Nickelodeon’s parent firm, to develop new metaverse experiences starring the two iconic franchises. These two projects are set to launch by the end of 2023.
Gamefam partnered with Paramount for two new metaverse games consisting of TMNT and SpongeBob.
Why Gamefam Partnered With Nickelodeon
In 2023, Gamefam and Paramount returned to Roblox with two exciting virtual experiences. Although the firms did not get into detail about the launch, we already know that they will feature Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) and SpongeBob SquarePants. Notably, Roblox users are set to enjoy immersive metaverse experiences consisting of iconic cartoon characters.
One major reason behind the partnership is to grow Nickelodeon’s top franchises in the Web3 space as well. Paramount’s Senior Vice President Doug Rosen commented:
“Expanding both franchises (e.g. SpongeBob and TMNT) to new platforms is a critical part of our gaming strategy. Gamefam’s expertise in creating and managing live-operated worlds at scale makes them an ideal partner for us to connect audiences with our content on Roblox.”
Interestingly, Gamefam is not a stranger to Roblox. Previously, this firm partnered with several other franchises to create games on the platform. One of the most notable games developed is Sonic The Hedgehog. In general, Gamefam boasts more than 30 Roblox gaming experiences – a leading position on the platform.
They chose Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles since it is one of the most renowned cartoon series of all time.
Why Did The Team Go For TMNT And SpongeBob?
SpongeBob SquarePants has grown to become one of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time. Despite all that fame that spans multiple generations, the franchise has little presence in the Web3 space. Interestingly, the only official SpongeBob game is Nickelodeon’s Nickverse.
That is a similar scenario to the TMNT since its first and only game titled Turtle Trouble was unveiled in 2007. But, the new Roblox games may include some elements from the previous launches together with other interesting features and quests.
What Is Gamefam?
Launched in 2019 by Joe Ferencz, Gamefam is a metaverse game developer that is now working with top brands to develop new Web3 experiences. Interestingly, it was the first firm that used Roblox as a game development platform – and it is safe to say that the rest is history.
At the time of publication, Gamefam had already released more than 40 games in different niches, including obstacle games, shooter, survival, and more. Notably, the team’s most significant partners are Sonic The Hedgehog, Hot Wheels, and many others.
In February 2023, the firm also announced its partnership with Warner Music Group for a brand new music-themed Roblox experience. There, the users can explore the music production world as dancers, DJs, and performers.
