What Is The Milady NFT Project Drama All About?

Another day came and another NFT Twitter drama ensued on May 23. This time around, the Milady NFT project founder came under fire for their earlier hate speeches that came up online. Most Twitter users have claimed that the founder has previously posted many homophobic, anti-trans, and white nationalist tweets.

But, what is the Milady NFT project, and what are these accusations against its founder? The internet never forgets and the founder was called out for their disturbing past comments.

What Is The Milady NFT Project?

Milady Maker is a popular NFT collection that consists of 10,000 generative PFP NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. An anonymous online collective known as Remilia unveiled these anime-inspired, lo-fi avatars in 2021. At first, the idea was to give holders access to a “highly customized Minecraft server”.

The Milady NFT project soon extended its ecosystem to involve NFT banners, VRtube, bootleg merch, mixtapes, and a lot more. This collection became popular early in 2022, with some selling for as high as 15 ETH or around $45,000 at the time. Today, its floor price is at 0.375 ETH on OpenSea.

Notably, Charlotte Fang (“Charlie” or “Charlemagne”), is the CEO of Remilia. Based on a statement by Fang, the collection takes inspiration from “00’s Tokyo street fashion”. Every NFT in the collection comes in various rarities, beginning from the highest rarity of ‘SS’.

Some of the users have criticized the use of ‘SS’ instead of ‘S’ as a result of its Nazi connotations. But, Fang refuted all these allegations.

What Is The Drama All About?

Besides the use of ‘SS’, the collection found itself in muddy waters after other allegations came up. For example, soon after its launch, most collectors discovered that a spin-off collection featured avatars wearing t-shirts with the word “Treblinka”, which is a major Nazi concentration camp. The project denied all that as well, purporting that they randomly generated the phrases using text from many sources.

Startlingly, things do not just end there. Some Twitter users have also claimed that Remilia is connected to a now-defunct, white supremacist collective group called Kaliacc. Sadly, Kaliacc is short for “Kali Yuga Accelerationism” which refers to the Vedic Yuga Cycle.

Dexter tweeted:

“…the miłady maker/remiłia team is a neo-nazi grooming cult that has been exploiting and coaxing underage girls into self-harm + worse for years under the name Kaliacc.”

So far, several Twitter users have called out the Milady NFT project founder.

Furthermore, some have also claimed that Fang is behind the online alias ‘Miya’, one of the leading figures of Kaliacc. Miya’s early tweets and blog posts are severely racist and homophobic. Miya was also accused of “grooming” young girls. Supposedly, Miya was also part of a suicide cult that was responsible for a 17-year-old taking their life.

How Has The Founder Responded?

At first, Fang denied any connections to Miya. But, on May 21, Fang made a ‘full disclosure.’ Fang tweeted:

“I was Miya. And its toxic baggage that’s hurting the Milady community & poisoning the vibe. I apologize about trying to hide the past account—Miya has nothing to do with Milady Maker & should stay that way so I’ll be stepping down from the team from here.”

Fang added:

“Thought trying to distance myself would help but not gonna keep pussyfooting around it. Unequivocally, my real views hold no room for hate, and I detest abusers & groomers—trolling about it was juvenile, but in reality, I’ve never harmed a fly.”

They further stated that they will now be “taking a break” for a while. Fang’s tweet got mixed reactions, with some of the users calling them out for ‘lying’. Certainly, there are some serious claims against the Milady NFT Project founder. Could this be the end of Milady Makers?
